Navi Mumbai International Airport

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is an under-construction airport located in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is being developed to alleviate congestion at the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai. The airport is being built on an area of about 1,160 hectares near the Panvel region, along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and close to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
The NMIA is expected to become a major international airport, with the capacity to handle 12 million passengers in its first phase, and eventually up to 60 million passengers per year in later phases. The project is being developed by the Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), a public-private partnership involving the CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra), the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and other private entities.
The airport will feature a state-of-the-art terminal, multiple runways, and modern infrastructure to cater to both domestic and international flights. The construction of the airport is expected to boost the economy of Navi Mumbai and surrounding regions, facilitating improved connectivity, tourism, and trade.
The first phase of the airport is slated for completion in the next few years, although timelines may change based on construction progress and regulatory approvals. Once operational, NMIA will play a significant role in the growing aviation demand of the Mumbai metropolitan region.
